Anti-Corruption movement – A beginning of Revolution




I am one of those educated, net-savvy and very curious youth of India who does not believe in things just because it is told or said by some eminent personality, rather who prefers to hunt through hundreds of resources that are available to validate the truthfulness and ethicality of the same. And only after this verification, who tries to build their opinions based on so called common sense. With this background, when I look at the ‘Anti-corruption movement’ led by Shri Anna Hajare, when I look at the response to it by ‘Common Man’ across the nation and by the government, then only one word comes to my mind and that is ‘Revolution’. In the very next moment I hit the Wikipedia which gives me below elaboration and definition of this word called ‘Revolution’ –


A 'Revolution' is - A fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. It can be of below two types -
   I.  Complete change from one constitution to another
  ii.  Modification of an existing constitution.
                                                       OR
Any and all instances in which a state or a political regime is overthrown and thereby transformed by a popular movement in an irregular, extra-constitutional and/or violent fashion.


Revolutions have occurred through human history and vary widely in terms of methods, duration and motivating ideology. Their results include major changes in culture, economy, and socio-political institutions. And the right of revolution is the right or duty of the people of a nation to overthrow a government that acts against their common interests.



To me, the above briefing on Revolution (socio-political) clearly indicates that, it occurs when – The state authority (government) uses the constitutional rights in their own interests and not in the interest of common man of the state (nation). There can be several reasons for such situation to arise, as outdated system, ill moral of the majority of people in the authority and lack of capable leadership. But it starts developing a negative sentiment amongst the common man against the authority. Such sentiment takes time to grow/spread and intensify (based on different factors) and often allows enough time for authority to change. But when the authority refuses to change, then this well spread and intensified negative sentiment takes the form of a state wide movement which in turn overthrows the state authority by means of, may be an irregular, extra-constitutional and/or violent fashion which later history terms as a ‘Revolution’. And the side-effects of such revolution depends on the factors like- nature of the movement (violent/non-violent), number of people involved, involvement of different sections, religions, cults of society, etc.
                 In this context when I look at our nation, it got its own constitution after a prolonged fight of freedom and after sacrificing countless lives. Since then many governments ruled the nation under different leaderships. I really don’t know exactly from what time the problems like corruption, misuse of constitutional rights to disguise people and inefficiency of authority towards its duties has started becoming prominent. But maybe these were very rare in the initial days of freedom, may be because those people in authority knew the real cost of freedom, they were well bound with moral and ethical obligations, the constitution was well suited for those times. And over the period people started to get the freedom for free (like we have got), all the values and obligations towards society/nation started to get diluted thereby leading to such problems. Or maybe these issues were there since long back but the so called ‘Janata’ was not alert, awake to notice them. Irrespective of all these guesses, the fact is the common man has been suffering from all these issues since so long and the current government has broken all the records in regards to especially corruption. Moreover it has shown great inefficiency in taking actions against until it was forced by the Supreme Court, by the opposition party and by the Janata.
                  Every movement needs a leader to start it, a leader with all those five qualities which Anna talks about. Thanks to Anna and his team for providing such an able and trustworthy leadership. This movement, like any other movement is being looked at differently by different people. When lacs are seen very optimistic and are providing full support by coming to streets, few are very apathetic and some are strongly opposing the movement. When I interact with people with very neutral and apathetic view, I get to here following argument that they have – “If the ‘Jan Lokpal Bill’ gets implemented then what is the guaranty that corruption will stop? Or what is the guaranty that the people from the Lokpal body won’t get corrupt?” And the other group of people (mostly from or supporting government) opposing the movement has many different arguments. First of all government is trying best by means of treachery and coercion to suppress any effort made towards starting any such movement, as it is seen from the kind of action that was taken against Ramdev Baba and even with Shri Anna Hajare this time. And whoever tries to raise voice, the government adopts very resentful way and starts investigations against that person to find at least something which can defame him/her. Government makes one more argument against such movements calling it as non-constitutional.
                  But when I do my own investigations by listening to different leaders from the movement, from the government and from the outside; by reading through different news-papers and browsing through different sites and when I apply my own thoughts to all the findings based on common sense, this is how I see all the above arguments/opinions/actions against the movement as baseless, anti-democratic and against human beings very right of revolution – Yes, no one can guarantee that the ‘Jan Lokpal Bill’ if implemented, will check the corruption completely; but if we read through the draft or listen to the explanation given by one of the leaders from the movement like Mr. Kejriwal, then we can clearly see that it will check the corruption at least up to sixty percent. And it is very obvious for me to understand that getting a strongest possible lokpal bill in place is a very first and important step. Once it is through then it won’t be difficult to amend it further to make it more robust and flawless. If the Jan Lokpal bill is put in place then it will act against all the corrupt people and not only against a specific group of people. But whenever someone tries to start the movement against corruption, every time government tries to malign that person’s image in a way or other simply to mislead people and disrupt the movement. If someone himself is corrupt and still wants to have such a strong system in place, this clearly means to me that he/she is ready to face it. Hence I will definitely stand behind such person as the motive, that the person is now fighting for is in the interest of common man and is very divine. When someone calls this movement as non-constitutional, then very first question comes to my mind is “Whether people are for constitution or constitution for people?” I think it is “constitution for people”. Then people have every right to amend or change the constitution whenever they feel it is required. When government is seen unwilling to bring in such change and when people loses faith in the government and political leadership, then the only option left with them to bring in such change is through the public movement and hence there is no question of calling such movement as non-constitutional.
                  I am one of those India’s common man who is not yet corrupt, who suffers from corruption every now and then, when I seek admission to schools/colleges, when I seek job, when I seek some legal documents from government offices and the list is real big. There are many such problems like corruption, we the common man are suffering from and with all these sufferings we are not living but struggling to live. When we realize this fact, then we tend to accept the situation by simply saying “India ka kuch nahi ho sakta”. But I believe this is the time when we have a chance to change this mind set, this is a time when we can learn to live. Now let’s say it is enough and let’s unite to support this noble movement without discriminating ourselves on the basis of region, religion, cast, party. The very important role that we educated crowed have to play is to make those aware who are unaware of the movement. Let’s educate our families, friends, and neighbors and make them also support and participate in the movement. If we succeed this time to implement this common will of the common man through the means of this non-violent movement, then we defiantly can bring in every such good change that every common man dreams of. Hence I find this movement as a start of a “Revolution” and I feel very lucky to be part of and to witness the same. Don’t you also feel the same…??

ऐ जमाने वालो
क्यों की जब भी हम रोते है
कुछ तो बदल ज़रूर देते है

ना ये जख्म ना वो घाव
नाही वो मन मे उठता तनाव
हमे कभी तड़पा सके
अब तुम भी ना हमे तड़पाना
ऐ जमाने वालो
क्यों की जब भी हम तड़पते है
कुछ तो बदल ज़रूर देते है

कभी शांति तो कभी विनाश
कभी गाँधी तो कभी सुभाष
हम किसकी राह चुनेंगे
ये परखने की भूल ना करना
क्यों की जब भी, जैसे भी हम लढते है
कुछ तो बदल ज़रूर देते है

ना वो फलक ना ये धरा
और नाही ये सागर सारा
तुम्हे भागने के लिए काफ़ी होगा
अब हमे ना सरफ़रोश बना देना
क्यों की जब भी हम सरफ़रोश बनते है
तो बहोत कुछ बदल ज़रूर देते है

एहेसास एक बूँद सा

तुम्हारा ये एहेसास
जैसे बारिश की एक बूँद
बादलों से छुटकर
ज़मीं को चिढाती
हरे पत्ते पर

लटकती हुई

देखकर इसे
हवा भी थम जाए
छूकर जिसे
किरणों को पहचान मिल जाए
ऐसी ही एक बूँद
हरे पत्ते पर
लटकती हुई

  ये
तुम्हारा एहेसास
एक बूँद ही तो है
यादों से निकलकर
मुझे चिढ़ाती
मेरे दिल के पत्ते पर
लटकती हुई

देखकर जिसे
समय भी थम जाए
पाकर जिसे
मुझे पहचान मिल जाए
ऐसी ही एक बूँद
मेरे दिल के पत्ते पर
लटकती हुई

सोचता हूँ कभी
दूर कही चला जाउ
तुम्हारे एहेसासों की दुनिया में
चारों और जहाँ
बूंदे ही बूंदे हो बारिश की
हरे पत्तों पर
लटकती हुई
...

मैं भारत का नवयुवक
रोज सबेरे उठता हूँ
सारे सपने घरपर छोड़
कामकाज को निकलता हूँ

रोजवाली उसी राह के
उसी खड्डे से गुज़रता हूँ
भीड़भाड़ से ऑफीस पोहोच
दिनभर महेनत करता हूँ

शाम को घरपर छोड़ने वाली
उसी बस में चढ़ता हूँ
फिरसे उसी खड्डे से होकर
अपने घर पोहोचता हूँ

मैं भारत का नवयुवक
कभी धमाके सुनता हूँ
दो आँसू बहता हूँ
जब इनमें अपनो को खोता हूँ

मेरा देश चलाने वालों के
भ्रष्टाचार को सहेता हूँ
विधान भवन में चलाने वाली
चप्पले भी देखता हूँ

इन सबसे होने वाले
दर्द से पीड़ित होता हूँ
इसी पीड़ा को मन मे लिए
किसी रात को सोता हूँ

मैं भारत का नवयुवक
अगली सुबह उठता हूँ
सारी पीड़ा घरपर छोड़
कामकाज को निकलता हूँ

रोजवाली उसी राह के
उसी खड्डे से गुज़रता हूँ
भीड़भाड़ से ऑफीस पोहोच

महेनत करता हूँ

शाम को घरपर आते आते
फिरसे सबकुछ भूलता हूँ
इसी रात को सोने पर
नये सपने देखता हूँ

अब एक सबेरे जगूंगा
जातीधर्म की भिन्नताओं मे
मैं खुदको ना बाटुंगा

मैं 'भारतीय' यही एक
अपनी पहेचान बताउंगा
पीड़ाजनक हर घटना के खिलाफ
अब 'एक आवाज़' उठाउंगा

मैं राष्ट्र का नवयुवक
अब एक सबेरे जगूँगा ...

तुम कभी दिल मे मेरे
एक ख़याल बनकर आती हो
मुझे खुदसे ही बहोत
दूर कही ले जाती हो

अंजान खुदसे मैं
तुम्हे देखता रहे जाता हूँ
और आँखो मे मुझे बसा
तुम पलके झुका लेती हो

इन ख़यालो से निकल जब
मुझे अपना एहेसास होता है
पाकर दूर तुम्हे ख़ुदसे
बड़ा बेचैनसा लगता है

इसी तनहाई मे किसी को देख
यू लगता है के तुम हो
इसी तनहाई मे किसी की आहट सुन
यू लगता है के तुम हो

फिर छुपकर कही दुरसे
उसे देखता रहेता हूँ
उसे देखने वाली हर नज़र से
खूब जला करता हूँ

इतना हसी पाकर उसे
ख़ुदसे ही डरने लगता हूँ
क्या भाऊंगा मैं उसको भी
यही सोचकर रहेता हूँ

अब मेरी यहा हालत देख
तुम बहोत हसने लगती हो
फिर से कभी दिल मे मेरे
जब ख़याल बनकर आती हो

फिर मेरा हात थामकर
दूर कही ले जाती हो
तुम कभी दिल मे मेरे
एक ख़याल बनकर आती हो ...

गत-क्षणांच्या सभेत (Composed on: 5th March 2005)

माझ्या मनमंचावर बरेचदा
गत-क्षणांच्या सभा होतात
प्रत्येक वेळी ते मात्र
माझ्या विषयीच बोलत असतात

अश्याच एका क्षणांच्या सभेत
मीही चोरून उपस्थित होतो
स्वतःपुरत माझ्याविषयी बोलणार्‍या
प्रत्येक क्षणाला ऐकत होतो

प्रत्येक क्षण आपआपला 'मी'
निकषाने मांडायचा
तो किती योग्य नि बरोबर
हे सर्वांना सांगायचा

प्रत्येक क्षण बोलून झाला
की मी स्वतःवरच हसायचो
ह्यांच्याच साठी का जगतोय आपण
अस स्वतःलाच विचारायचो

असा त्या क्षणांवर हसणारा 'मी'
मी कधी ओळखलाच नाही
उपस्थित असलेला मी तिथे
त्या क्षणांनाही दिसलाच नाही

जगतोय मी ज्यासाठी तो
क्षण तर तेथे भेटलाच नाही
आजवर जगलेल्या आयुष्याला मग
अर्थ तरी उरला काही

परी येणार्‍या प्रत्येक क्षणामधून
तो श्रेष्ठ क्षण घडवायचा आहे
नि मनमंचावरील गत-क्षणांच्या सभेत
एकदा पुन्हा उपस्थित राहायच आहे

Reading Between the Lines: 

It is in the lonely times when all the past memories (moments) come to his mind and starts boasting about themselves explaining why they were important in his life. At the end when every moment is done boasting he thinks, "are these the moments that I am living for?" And realizes that the moment for which he wants to live is yet to happen to him. That is when he decides to make every future moment so special that, by living in which he should feel like he has lived the entire life in real sense...!!

उलझकर इतना रहे गए
तुमने दिलपर दी दस्तक मगर
हम दिल लगाना भुल गए

कभी गहरे ख्वाबो में
तो कभी ऊँचे इरादों में
कभी ठगती परछाइयों में
तो कभी थकाती जिम्मेदारियों में
हम व्यस्त इतना रहे गए
मिलना था कभी तुमसे मगर
हम फुरसत निकालना भुल गए

कभी उन शर्मोहयाओने
तो कभी सिसकती आहों ने
कभी अनजान फासलों ने
तो कभी कमजोर इरादों ने
हमें इस कदर बांधे रखा
तुमने मिलाई जो नजर हमसे
तेरी आँखों में देखना भुल गए

अब हमें ना कोई हैरत होगी
गर हमसे तुम्हे शिकायत है
हमें ना कोई गैरत होगी
गर तुमसे ना मोहब्बत करने की इजाजत है
हम तो जुर्म ही ऐसा कर बैठे

A Risk Taking Factor


Few days back I was talking to one of my friends who runs his own business. The discussion was about the concern I had for the risk involved in one of the decisions that was made. And below thought is what I could take away as learning from this discussion –

“Every self-controlled person must take a calculated risk in their life.” This thought gives rise to galore of questions, as to what is mean by ‘Self-Controlled Person’?  How to determine the ‘Calculated Risk’ and why one should take it?
            ‘Risk’ is when we take up certain task/activity looking at its extraordinary benefits, though we know that there is a possibility of failure in accomplishing it OR its accomplishment might lead to certain adverse side effects. When such a risky task/activity goes other way, then we get exposed to the adverse side of it which puts us under more or less intensity of mental, physical or monetary strain. Now the ‘Calculated Risk’ is when we know in advance the intensity of such a strain and the extent of setback that can be received when such an activity/task doesn’t go as planned.
            Such a calculated risk taking capacity varies person to person, as the potential of fighting against different kinds of strains and stresses is different for every individual. To give an example, a guy with poor self-control, when exposed to such strains might start boozing (instead of fighting back) and get addicted becoming victim to the risk, and will suffer from its worst side effects. Whereas other guy with good self control might plan better against such a risk and might execute it successfully to overcome it, and eventually will only see the best side of it.
            I personally feel that, people who had to struggle hard to raise in their careers carries comparatively better ‘Risk Taking Factor’. When one has to face lots of adverse conditions and hence lots of risks in order to achieve what he/she is looking for, is what I think we call as struggle. And when one struggles, means he gets trained to fight back the different kinds of strains, hence over the period becomes more and more self-controlled. But of course one needs to realize the self ‘Risk Taking Factor’ by introspection, and then go for the ‘Calculated Risks’ to achieve every other intermittent goal. This way one will keep growing more & more tough, knowledgeable and self-controlled to achieve the goal of life, thereby adding more meaning to it!
Following (as shown in the table) can be the different parameters which one should consider for RTF calculation, before taking up any kind of endeavour.  If we consider ‘An Ideal RTF’ as 100%, then I will give the weight-age to each of these parameters as in the table below-

Now to show the approximate calculations, let’s take a specific example of a person whose individual evaluation against each parameter (for an endeavour like- ‘going for higher studies’ or ‘starting a small scale business’) is as given in the column ‘Individual Evaluation’ from the table below. So based on the proportionate calculations, his RTF comes around 76%. In my opinion, having an RTF (for any endeavour/task) more than 70 is a strong indicator that one must go for it.

‘Taking Risk’ makes your life more happening & thrilling. Hence all those who love thrill and are courageous enough to lead an adventurous life need not worry about all these calculations. But for those who are very specific & hesitant about taking risks in life, the RTF can be a good indicator for making decision on taking up the calculated risks. And of course the accuracy of RTF indicator is in direct proportion to the accuracy of the aftermath calculations and hence no one else can calculate your individual RTF but you.

Philosophy of The Power of an Individual




I was just thinking about the 'Power of an Individual' & the below philosophy got cooked up in my mind:

There are different kinds of powers which make an individual so called ‘POWERFUL’. It can be muscular, monetary, of character, intellectual, and social/political (due to network & fame). And human being a social creature, the potential of all these different powers to make an individual ‘POWERFUL’ is in the increasing order from left to right in above sequence.
When one want to lead a balanced life, it is very important first to achieve the balance of power. Otherwise a hunk with below average intellect will end up being called as no more than a ‘Dumb Guy’; and even a talent with poor physic will also find it hard to achieve the balance in life.
In the quest of power, when everyone is struggling to become more and more powerful, there are many factors which confines the ability of an individual of becoming powerful; viz. Natural abilities/disabilities, Thirst of Power and Number of Repetitive Mistakes that one does in his/her life.
           Yes, mistake happens. But one needs to try to convert every mistake that is made into a Teacher, who will prevent him from repeating the similar mistakes. If one fails in doing this conversion, then mistake remains mistake and every mistake is harmful. The biggest disadvantage of such an un-converted mistake is that it adversely affects the ability of an individual to gain power.
Finally, the power of an individual also has its own lifecycle, which is directly proportional to the way of its utilization. If a comparatively powerful individual tries to utilize his power in a way which disturbs the social equilibrium, then he is bound to lose the power early; if not then at least he will lose the ecstatic feeling of being powerful and will no more remain competetive to become further more powerful.
